What’s up with St. Paul’s? After 148 years in Yonkers the doors are temporarily closed. The Bishop was here. So too were the news cameras. People gathered one last time to pray, sing, and celebrate the Mass. Then they marched out of the church and closed the doors.
A pretty dramatic "end" for an historic church.
So, what’s next? You are! That is, if you want to be.
St. Paul’s cares about you. About your life and where God fits into it. That’s why we’ve closed the church, for now. Because you are more important than a 19th century church trying to hold onto a past that is no longer relevant.
Maybe St. Paul’s was once a part of your life. Maybe you came to Mass here. Maybe you were in day care. Maybe you, or your parents, or grandparents were married here. Or maybe you’ve never even walked in the doors or cared one way or the other about the big stone church on Palisade. That’s the past.
What matters now is how St. Paul’s can be relevant today, to you, and to your life. While St. Paul’s was officially closed in 2005, we are in the process of reopening and are already holding services each Sunday evening at 5:00 pm along with Sunday School and Adult Christian Education.
That’s because we’re counting on you. On your curiosity. On the spiritual rumblings you feel in your soul. And, on the hope you have that someday you just might find a church that actually listens to you, cares about you, and helps you discover for yourself the love God has for you.
As you explore our web pages, I hope you will listen for that still, small voice that’s whispering in your heart. It’s God calling you. And as you listen, ask yourself, “Can St. Paul’s be the church I’ve been hoping for?” If so, please let me know. Send an email to me at: connect@spcy.org
Maybe St. Paul’s is just what you’re looking for.
We’re certainly looking for you.
